WeberHaus Self-builder Michael Speakman Shares His Experience
Our goal was to construct an ideal home for our family, incorporating all desired features. We envisioned the house as a central hub for family and friends. Having outgrown our previous residence, we sought to maximise the potential of our new plot and its south-facing vista. The new build presented us with an opportunity to create a highly energy-efficient and carbon-friendly house. As a parent and grandparent, I recognise it is my responsibility to contribute to climate protection and that is why we decided to build a sustainable house. Although it entailed higher initial costs and required integrating various advanced technologies, the outcome has been rewarding and has inspired others to consider similar options.
Now that the construction is complete, I am particularly satisfied with the kitchen and lounge area. It is both sociable and practical, serving its purpose effectively. Additionally, my study provides a conducive workspace, separate from the rest of the house.
While the groundwork phase was somewhat stressful, once WeberHaus came onboard and started the subsequent construction and fit-out it became straightforward. They completed their work within the allocated time and budget, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship, skill and professionalism.
We advise any prospective self-builders to meticulously plan and engage in thorough discussions with their builder. Challenges are inevitable, so maintaining a sense of humour is essential. It is also important to employ the best craftsmen available, as in the end, quality craftsmanship represents excellent value.
